Villages Folk School
Villages Folk School is located in Van Buren County and offers 1-day and weekend classes in arts, crafts and trades of everyday people or "folks."
Classes include topics such as pottery, blacksmithing, artisanal baking, gardening and painting. The entire county will serve as the campus for the classes making use of the scenic landscapes and historic villages.
 Pathfinders helped organizers develop their Articles of Incorporation and bylaws, apply for their 501c3 non-profit designation, and facilitate development of their 40-page business plan.
Pathfinders secured a $25,000 Natural Resource Based Opportunity Grant to help fund a coordinator for Villages Folk School. Pathfinders also provided grant writing for a Strenghtening Rural Iowa Grant to help the Folk School build internal capacity.

NEW! Grant Received for Mormon Trail Development
Pathfinders recevied $86,000 in Statewide Transportation Enhancement grant funds to identify nationally significant historical resources on the Iowa Mormon Wagon Trails and Iowa Mormon Handcart Trail.
The project will include a cultural and natural resource inventory and land acquisition study. The project will also result in preservation and interpretive plans. This project is being completed as part of Iowa scenic byway development
While grants funds have been committed, Pathfinders is still securing necessary cash match. The project is expected to start in fall 2012.
