About Pathfinders

Pathfinders Mission

Pathfinders Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) is a non-profit organization that actively supports your efforts to grow your local economy, conserve your natural resources and enhance your recreational opportunities.

Pathfinders serves southeast Iowa with an emphasis in Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Van Buren and Wapello counties.

RC&D is rooted in the concept that local people know what their communities need and can create solutions that work. At the height of the program, there were 16 RC&D areas in Iowa and over 350 RC&D areas nationwide. The Iowa League of RC&Ds is an association representing all the RC&Ds in Iowa.

Pathfinders History

Local efforts to organize the Pathfinders Area were initiated in the early 1970’s. A formal application for USDA program assistance was submitted in 1976. In January 1980, the Pathfinders area was authorized for program assistance by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The Pathfinders Area received USDA staff assistance from 1980 - 2011. In April 2011, USDA discontinued their partnership with Pathfinders RC&D.

Today, Pathfinders continues to provide valuable assistance in southeast Iowa by generating revenue through the many projects and services it provides.
